The Basis of Wícked: A lot happened before Dorothy dropped in.

Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy dropped in, two young women meet in the Land of Oz at Shiz University. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked gives us an insight as to how Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West and G(a)linda becomes the Good Witch. It shows us how these two unlikely friends at University become how they are perceived in the Wizard of Oz as they develop their magical powers. We learn that Elphaba was never really Wicked, but lonely, hard working, had uncontrollable powers and wanted to make good throughout Oz. Unfortunately by coincidental incidents she becomes the figure of a wicked witch. G(a)linda had great help from Elphaba, and without her may never have become a public figure in Oz. Wícked expresses the beautiful friendship that Elphaba and G(a)linda have, even though it does start shakily.

"Thank Goodness" Wícked has finally come to the West End! It is open now at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London. Wícked started in Broadway and became a spellbinding hit with all of America! The West End is also lucky enough to have the original outstanding star of the show, Idina Menzel (who played Elphaba) for a limited time only! This is a show not to be missed!

Wícked features music and lyrics by the talented Stephen Schwartz, with the book by Winnie Holzman, and is based on the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire. The musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento Wícked is directed by 2003 and 2004 Tony Award winner Joe Mantello.
