Idina Menzel
Idina Menzel plays The Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba!
Idina Menzel won the 2004 Tony Award for ‘Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical’ for her performance as ‘Elphaba’ in the original Broadway cast of WICKED. She received 2006 Drama League and Drama Desk award nominations for her performance in Michael John LaChiusa’s musical See What I Wanna See, directed by Ted Sperling, at New York’s Public Theater. Idina received a Tony nomination for her Broadway debut performance as ‘Maureen’ in the original production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning hit Rent. She also earned a Drama Desk nomination for her performance as ‘Kate’ in Manhattan Theatre Club’s Off-Broadway original musical The Wild Party. She originated the role of ‘Dorothy’ in Summer of '42 at Goodspeed, appeared as ‘Sheila’ in the Encores! production of Hair and starred as ‘Amneris’ in Broadway's Aida. Her other Off-Broadway credits include the pre-Broadway production of Rent and The Vagina Monologues. Idina’s film credits include: Robert Towne's Ask The Dust, opposite Salma Hayek and Colin Farrell; Chris Columbus' film version of Rent, in which she reprised her role as ‘Maureen’; Enchanted, the upcoming Disney film in which she stars opposite Patrick Dempsey, Amy Adams, James Marsden and Susan Sarandon; Summer of Sam; Just a Kiss and Kissing Jessica Stein. Idina writes and performs her own music and is currently at work on an album for her record label, Warner Bros. Records, which will be produced by Glen Ballard. Her CD of original music, Here, was independently released on her Zel Records label and produced by Jamey Jaz for Opopp Entertainment. In 1998, Idina performed at the Lilith Fair summer concert festival and released her debut album, Still I Can't Be Still, on
Hollywood Records.
